While a lot Australians turn their nose up at Canberra, and a lot of North Americans don’t even know where it is, it is actually a very beautiful city. The weather is great…hot, but not humid. The city has been planned such that traffic is minimal (I now love roundabouts and can actually drive on the left-hand side of the road!) And the amount of green space around the city is lovely.
On the weekends, Adam and I have been trying to get out and enjoy the weather as much as possible.
The other day we did the Flower to Tower hike. This one started in the Australian National Botanical Gardens and went up to the Black Mountain summit where the Telstra tower is located.
Recently, during the hottest time of the day, we walked up Mount Taylor. This Mountain is in South Canberra and you can see both South Canberra and North Canberra from here. I think this one was our favourite so far as it had the best views.
While Adam was at work one day, I took the car (for the first time by myself…eeek), to Mount Ainslie. This was a short, but heart pumping walk up with views of the city.
Since I was so close, I decided to check out the Australian War Memorial. I actually spent an hour in there, which should come to a surprise as I am not a museum / gallery person. Everything in there was so interesting and they even had model aircrafts from the war. One of my favourite exhibits was the marble sculpture of the folded flags. This was in memory of fallen soldiers.
We also went to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve one weekend. Here we spotted some koalas, kangaroos, wallabees, palatypus, and lizards.
See, lots to enjoy in Canberra!
